The 2 factors that affect the processing quality of Monocrystal Diamond Chamfering Tools
In ultra-precision machining, the monocrystal diamond chamfering tool will be used. The cutting edge shape and radius will affect the processing quality of MCD chamfering tool.
1) The influence of cutting edge shape on processing quality of the diamond polishing tool
The single crystal diamond tools used in ultra-precision cutting are made of straight-line wiper edge and also made of circular arc edge. The differences are as follows:
When the monocrystal diamond tool has a straight wiper edge, it can reduce the residual area and reduce the roughness value of the processed surface, and a satisfactory processed
surface can be obtained. In addition, the linear wiper edge is easy to manufacture and grind. But the straight-line wiper tool requires good tool setting. The straight-line wiper should
be strictly consistent with the feed direction. The wiper should not be too long. Too long will increase the radial cutting force. Excessive friction between the wiper and the workpiece
surface will cause the surface roughness value increases and accelerates tool wear. The length of the wiper edge is generally 0.05 to 0.20 mm. When processing cylindrical surfaces,
conical surfaces and end planes, linear wipers are often used.
When the tool adopts the arc wiper edge, it is easy to set the tool and easy to use. The residual surface left by the arc edge is positively small and has little effect on the surface roughness.
However, the tool is expensive to manufacture and polish. The feed rate is very small during ultra-precision cutting, generally f<0.02mmΠR. The recommended arc radius of the wiper edge
is R=0. 5~3mm.
2) The influence of the cutting edge radius of single crystal diamond high-gloss tools on the processing quality
The smaller the radius of the edge, the better the sharpness of the edge. In actual production, the sharpness of the edge has a great influence on the processing quality. The experiment
and production prove that it is mainly manifested in the following aspects:
The better the sharpness of the edge, the smaller the roughness of the machined surface;
The better the sharpness of the edge, the smaller the cutting deformation and cutting force;
The better the sharpness of the edge, the smaller the phenomenon of cold hardness and dislocation of the cutting surface layer;
The better the sharpness of the edge, the smaller the residual stress on the machined surface.
It can be seen that in actual production, we always hope that the cutting edge radius of the edge is as small as possible, so as to obtain a high-quality machined surface. LINKUT will
