The Testing Standards of Diamond Cutting Bits
Polycrystalline diamond composite (PDC)/diamond cutting bit is the fundamental cutting unit of PDC drill bits, and its performance has a decisive influence on the drilling effect
and life of PDC drill insert. According to the application requirements and the convenience of testing, impact resistance, wear resistance and heat resistance are now used as the
main indicators to measure the quality of PDC.
How to test the performance of the PDC cutters?
Heavy hammer impact method. The heavy hammer falls from a certain height and strikes the pdc compact cutters, and the impact resistance of the PDC is confirmed by comparing
the number of impacts when the composite sheet is broken.
The method of turning the grooved rock with the PDC insert is used to evaluate the wear resistance of the pdc bit. Since the composite compact is not damaged, the results appear
in a weightless manner.
The method to evaluate the heat resistance of the PDC drill bit is to use high temperature differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric (TG) curve analysis to confirm
the oxidation temperature and resistance of the polycrystalline diamond layer (PCD) of the composite in an air atmosphere.
