In ultra precision machining, we will use diamond high gloss chamfering cutter.The shape and radius of diamond high gloss chamfering cutter will affect the machining quality.

1) Influence of MCD monocrystal diamond tools shape on machining quality

Single crystal diamond cutting tools used in ultra precision cutting can be made into straight-line polishing edge and arc edge. 

When the MCD tools has a linear polishing edge, the residual area can be reduced, the roughness value of the machined surface can be reduced, and a satisfactory machined 

surface can be obtained. In addition, the manufacturing and grinding of the linear polishing edge is easy. However, the straight-line polishing edge tool requires good tool alignment. 

The straight-line polishing edge shall be strictly consistent with the feed direction. The polishing edge shall not be too long, which will increase the radial cutting force. Too much 

friction between the polishing edge and the workpiece surface will increase the surface roughness value and accelerate the tool wear. The length of the polishing tool is generally 

0.05 ~ 0.20mm. In China, straight-line polishing edge is often used in machining cylindrical surface, conical surface and end plane. When the circular arc polishing edge is adopted 

for the tool, it is easy to adjust the tool and easy to use. The residual area left by the circular arc edge is very small, which has little impact on the surface roughness, but the 

manufacturing and grinding of the tool is cumbersome and the price is high. During ultra precision cutting, the feed rate is very small, generally f < 0.02mm Π R。 Arc polishing tool 

is widely used in foreign diamond tools. Recommended arc radius of polishing edge r = 0. 5~3mm。

2)  Influence of cutting edge radius of single crystal diamond SCD high gloss tool on machining quality

The smaller the radius of the tool, the better the sharpness of the tool. In actual production, the sharpness of the tool has a great impact on the processing quality. Experiments 

and production show that it is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1) The sharper the tool, the smaller the machined surface roughness

2) The sharper the tool, the smaller the cutting deformation and cutting force

3) The sharper the cutting edge is, the smaller the cold hardening phenomenon and structural dislocation phenomenon of the cutting surface layer are

4) The sharper the tool, the smaller the residual stress on the machined surface

It can be seen that in actual production, we always want the radius of the tool to be as small as possible, so as to obtain high-quality machined surface.
