The Requirements of PCBN Superhard Cutting Tools for Dry Cutting
According to statistics: in high productivity production enterprises, the cost of supply, maintenance and recycling of cutting fluid together accounts for 13% - 17% of the
manufacturing cost of workpieces, while the cost of superhard cutting tools (PCBN or PCD turning tools and cutting tools) only accounts for 2% - 5%. About 22% of the total
cost related to cutting fluid is the processing cost of cutting fluid.
It is estimated that if 20% of the cutting is dry cutting, the total manufacturing cost can be reduced by 1.6%. Green manufacturing, which has no pollution to the environment,
is regarded as a modern manufacturing mode of sustainable development. Dry cutting without any cutting fluid is a green manufacturing process to control the source of
environmental pollution. It can obtain clean and pollution-free chips, save a lot of costs of cutting fluid and its treatment, and further reduce production costs. Therefore, the
future direction of cutting is not to use or use as little as possible cutting fluid. With the development of superhard cutting tools, dry cutting becomes possible in the field of
mechanical manufacturing.
The features of dry cutting:
1)The chip is clean, clean and pollution-free, easy to recover and deal with;
2)The cutting fluid transmission, recovery, filtering and other devices and the corresponding costs are saved, the production system is simplified and the production cost is
reduced;
3) The separation device of cutting fluid and chip and the corresponding electrical equipment are omitted;
4) The compact structure of the cutting fluid will not cause accidents.
The dry cutting for the superhard tool requirements:
1) The tool should have high heat resistance and good wear resistance;
2) The friction coefficient between the tool and the chip should be as small as possible;
3) The shape of the tool should ensure smooth chip removal and easy heat dissipation;
4) The tool should have higher strength and impact toughness.
