The Main features and applications of different cutting edges for PCBN Inserts
For the PCBN inserts, we supply 4 types cutting edges:
F: Sharp edge such as SNGN090308 F
T: Chamfering such as SNGN090308 T01020
E: Honing such as SNGN090308 E
S: Chamfering+Honing such as SNGN090308 S01020
F (Sharp edge):
Sharp edge helps to improve the surface roughness of the machined surface, the durability is slightly worse, so it is only processing ordinary cast iron.
Roughness can reach Ra0.8-1.6. Mostly used for brake discs finish machining.
E (Honing):
Edge honing reduces micro-chipping and helps improve cutting edge integrity, but the cutting forces is bigger than the F edge. The heavier the honing,
the better the cutting edge shape and the better the strength, but the cutting resistance and cutting heat will also increase. Heavy honing is optional for
system rigidity and machine power or for interrupting cutting. The finish milling inserts often use E-edges.
T (Chamfering):
Chamfering is beneficial to improve the impact resistance of the cutting edge, and is often used for small allowance (ap<0.1) finish turning Hardened
steel. Compared with the S edge, it is beneficial to improve the quality of the machined surface and help to ensure dimensional stability.
S (Chamfering+Honing):
Cutting edge strength and overall cutting performance are the best, and PCBN tools are the most widely used cutting edge.
