The Important Role of PDC Cutter Inserts for Drilling
In order to explore and exploit oil and natural gas deep in the strata, people must use a variety of drilling equipment and tools to drill through hard and complex formations.
Among the drill tools, the PDC cutter inserts placed the important role.
The bit oil and gas is buried underground. In order to find oil and gas and obtain underground resources, it is necessary to crush the rock and drill through the ground. The
current drilling method is mainly to mechanically break the rock. The tool that breaks the rock is called a drill bit.The drill bit is the primary tool for breaking rock and forming
a wellbore. The performance of the drill bit directly affects the drilling speed, drilling quality and drilling cost. If the drill can be quickly drilled with a drill bit, the number of starts
and drills will be reduced during the entire drilling process, the speed of well construction will be increased, and the drilling cost will be reduced.
Due to the different nature of the rock fractured by the drill bit and the different drilling objectives and requirements, many different types of drill bits, such as scraper bits, roller
cone bits and diamond bits, are used in oil drilling. The most widely used is the roller bit, which is used in medium hard and hard formations as well as in deep wells. Diamond
drill bits work well in very hard formations and deep wells. A diamond drill bit with a diamond as a working edge is called a diamond drill bit.
When drilling, the polycrystalline crystals are continuously peeled off, and the new sharp and small crystals are continuously exposed, so that the cutting blocks are constantly
"self-sharp" during the wear process. The cutting edge is a sharp, highly wear-resistant, diamond-cutting block that can be “self-sharp”, so it can achieve high footage (4 to 6
times for roller cone bits) and high drilling speed at low drilling pressure ((2 times for the cone drill bit).
The polycrystalline diamond compact on the PDC bit cutting block is extremely thin and extremely hard, and is more than 100 times more abrasive than the tungsten carbide
underlayer. When the drill bit is working, since the tungsten carbide wears faster than the composite sheet, the composite sheet is exposed at any time to maintain a sharp edge.
At lower drilling pressures, the rock can be cut and the rock can be cut under the action of torque. Since the cutting block can be "self-sharp", this allows the drill bit to break the
rock in a cutting manner throughout the drilling process, enabling rapid drilling. PDC bits are suitable for soft to medium hard formations.
