PCD insert grades are classified by diamond size. The particle size of the diamond corresponding to the PCD tool grade of fine particles, medium particles and coarse particles is 

approximately 2 um, 10 um, 25 um, respectively. The coarse particle size grade has higher strength than the fine particle size grade, better wear resistance and a longer working 

life during roughing.

However, the cutting edge of a coarse-grained PCD tool is difficult to achieve the surface finish of a fine-grained PCD tool. Therefore, fine particle PCD cutters can achieve better 

surface finish, but wear faster.
