The Coating Introduction for the CBN PCD Cutting Tools
The coating for the cutting tool is a thin layer of refractory metal or non-metallic compound with good abrasion resistance (also can be coated on the surface of a hard
alloy or high-speed steel (HSS) substrate with good strength and toughness, on ceramic, diamond and cubic boron nitrite, etc.). The coating acts as a chemical and
thermal barrier, reducing diffusion and chemical reactions between the tool and the workpiece, thereby reducing crater wear. The coating tools have the characteristics
of high surface hardness, good abrasion resistance, stable chemical properties, heat and oxidation resistance, small friction factor, and low thermal conductivity.
When cutting, it can increase the tool life by 3 to 5 times and increase cutting speed is 20% ~ 70%, improve machining accuracy by 0.5 ~ 1 level, reduce tool consumption
cost by 20% ~ 50%. As a result, coated tools have become the hallmark of modern cutting tools, and their use in tools has exceeded 50%. At present, various tools used
in cutting processing, including turning tools, boring tools, drills, reamers, broaches, taps, thread combs, rolling heads, milling cutters, forming tools, gear hobs and gear
cutters, etc can be coated to improve their performance.
There are 4 types of coated tools: coated high-speed steel tools, coated carbide tools, and coated tools on ceramic and superhard materials (diamond or cubic boron nitride)
tools. However, the previous two coating tools were used the most. The coating on ceramic and super-hard material tools is a material with a lower hardness than the substrate.
The purpose is to improve the fracture toughness of the tool surface (which can be increased by more than 10%), reduce chipping and damage of the tool, and expand the
application range. LINKUT will suggest the fit coating for your cbn or pcd superhard cutting tools based on your detail application.
