Why CBN Cutting Tools are currently the best choice for machining Large Casting Roll?
CBN cutting tools are currently the first choice for machining large rolls with irregular surfaces. Rolls are important tools and key parts for rolling ferrous and metal blanks
into rolled products. The consumption cost of rolls is about 5% -15% of the production cost of steel rolling, which is directly related to the production efficiency, product quality,
production safety and cost of production of steel production enterprises. In order to ensure the long-term use of the roll, metal elements such as nickel and chromium are often
added during the roll casting process to improve the hardness and wear resistance of the workpiece.
Among them, there are two methods for forming rolls: casting and forging. Compared to forging rolls, casting rolls are more difficult to process, especially for large casting
rolls machining. The surface is often accompanied by casting defects such as sand inclusions, pores, and hard points. The requirements are higher. At present, the common
cutting tool materials are carbide cutting tools, ceramic cutting tools and CBN cutting tools. Cemented carbide tools are the mainstream tools on the market at present, but due
to their low hardness, facing large rolls with uneven heights, the tools have poor abrasion resistance and high cost, so carbide tools is not the best solution for this application.
Although the hardness and wear resistance of ceramic tools are higher than that of cemented carbide tools, they are not recommended due to the large brittleness and the
processing of rolls with irregular surfaces to collapse, which affects production efficiency and production costs. CBN tools are currently the first choice for machining large
rolls with irregular surfaces. The hardness of CBN tools reaches HRC95-100, which has high temperature red hardness, excellent wear resistance, and can achieve higher
cutting speeds than carbide tools 3-4 times.
LINKUT cbn inserts with higher toughness, such as our IBN100, IBN400 solid cbn inserts grades RNGN250600 for high chromium white cast iron, chilled cast iron and other
material rolls machining with better hardness and impact toughness than those of carbide tools and ceramic tools.
