Common Causes of PDC Drill Bit Damage
The common causes of PDC cutter drill bit damage is as follows:
Gravel exists in the formation;
There are many hard interlayers in the stratum.
During the drilling process of PDC polycrystalline diamond composite drill bit, it drilled from soft ground to hard interlayer. The shape of the crown contour structure
of the drill bit formed the cutting teeth of the same part of the drill bit. The teeth are not uniformly subjected to force when cutting the formation, forming countersinks
and jump drills. Most of the load acting on the drill bit is concentrated on the cutting teeth of the hard interlayer, and the instantaneous interception caused by countersinking
and jump drilling causes this part of the cutting teeth to break due to the large force, especially in cutting hard formations. When the hard point is high, the instantaneous
load is sufficient to form the chipping of the cutting teeth.
Hydraulic parameters of PDC polycrystalline diamond composite bit are not suitable: When using PDC bit, if the specific power is too large, the bit body will be severely
eroded. If the nozzle is not positioned properly, the sprayed fluid will reflect directly after hitting the bottom of the well Erosion of cutting teeth. If the specific water power is
too small, it is not good for the cleaning and cooling of the composite sheet, especially in soft formations. Thermally accelerated wear that easily forms composite sheets in
hard formations.
